Place of event: Savador
Salvador Carnival starts on Friday and ends on Ash Wednesday with the "Arrastão" (trawler). Thousands of revelers from around the world and Brazil have fun in the streets behind the electric trios or in the camarotes on the three official routes of the Carnival in Salvador: Osmar (Avenue), Dodo (Barra-Ondina) and Batatinha (Historical Center). Among the singers and their blocks, is the Camaleão from Chiclete com Banana band, Crocodilo from Daniela Mercury and Coruja from Ivete Zangalo. We cannot forget to mention the traditional blocks as: Ilê Aiyê, Olodum and Filhos de Gandhi.
The first group of Afoxé in Salvador was created in 1895 by slaves and in 1949 came the famous group Filhos de Gandhi (Sons of Gandhi). In 1950 came the first electric trio formed by Dodo and Osmar and in 1962, the first block in the street pulled by the trio: the "Internacionais" (Internationals). Since then, the Salvador's Carnival took gigantic proportions every year, both in terms of innovative technology and amusement.
