The Exhibition "Rio de Janeiro - Cidade e Fantasia" (Rio de Janeiro - City and Fantasy) features photographs taken by Pierre Verger. There are 24 photos with images of Rio de Janeiro, in its majority unheard of public, and especially about the Carnival, in the 40's.The exhibition is part of a major exhibition of 50 photos presented in 2009 in Rio de Janeiro. The photos by Pierre Verger will be available for sale.
Pierre Verger was born in Paris in 1902. Began photographing in 1932 also finding out another passion: to travel. He had the first lessons with his friend Pierre Boucher, got his first Rolleiflex and became a lonely traveler in the world from 1932 until 1946. In 1946, he landed in Bahia and was seduced by the hospitality and cultural richness of Pierre Verger was born in Paris in 1902. Began photographing in 1932 also finding out another passion: to travel. He had the first lessons with his friend Pierre Boucher, got his first Rolleiflex and became a lonely traveler in the world from 1932 until 1946. In 1946, he landed in Bahia and was seduced by the hospitality and cultural richness of the state. After that, he made other trips to Africa and later, returned to Bahia. In 1988 created the Pierre Verger Foundation, which has, became a research center, working in his own home. In February of 1996, Verger died, but the Foundation keeps presenting his work.
