Caring for destination
Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:
From the total City Tour's value, 5% will be deposited into Olodum School's account in order to support this project.
Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:
The Olodum School was created by the Carnival Association Bloco Afro Olodum, a non-governmental organization that aims to preserve and enhance the black culture in Bahia.
Its story started in 1979 in Salvador, when a small group of people gathered to create an organized group to enjoy carnival, which would enable the excluded and discriminated people to participate in the party.
The public target consists of children and adolescents aged from 7 to 21 years old, of low income. The school has about 360 students. It aims to preserve and enhance the black culture, seeking to build a cultural identity for African - Brazilian children and adolescents.
Olodum School's actions influence the society and are based on the ideology of education and references to citizenship. The work with arts, education, culture, science and new technologies apprenticeship developed at the School Olodum suggest ways to combat racist and oppressive behaviours of the society, promotes psychological wellbeing, social inclusion, widen concepts, and redeems the pride of being black. The school helps with the appreciation of their culture.
