Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:

Cocoon Hotel fulfills its role in  social responsibility through a project that combines sustainability and style. The work in a small community of women in Salvador was a inspiration for the adornment of the hotel and at the same time encourages and publicize the work of “Costureiras de Latinhas” (Seamstresses cans). The group assemble low-income women from Salvador who lives in places like Ogunja, Pelourinho and Cabula and use the art for the sake of the environment.

The partnership between Cocoon Hotel and "Costureiras de Latinhas" begans in August 2009 when the founder of the project and also Cocoon’s general manager, Pierluigi Guerini. When the founder saw a bag’s friend that was made with can seals, he had the idea of using this technique to give a new design to the hotel.
From Guerini’s imagination and drawings “Costureiras de latinhas” with empowered hands, art becomes reallity. The seals are reused, together with crochet and processed into various decorative objects such as scarves to bed, curtains, carpets, cushions, place mats, coasters, sofas and accessories like handbags.

The products are sold at Cocoon Hotel, in a store at Salvador airport and they are starting to be exported. According to Guerini there are shops in Rome and Milan, Italy, who are starting to sell some products. The funds from sales are invested in making new products and soon will be applied to create a NGO "Costureiras de Latinhas", aiming to teach the technique of sewing seals to other women and publicize the seamstresses work. With this help, Cocoon Hotel tries to enrich the culture and the local community and still has actions focused on sustainability.
